WATERMATIC solves scale problems for Brighton's oldest hotel

Kal-Guard+

Ongoing problems with limescale in hot water and heating systems at the Old Ship Hotel in Brighton have been solved with the installation of a KAL-GUARD+ electrolytic scale inhibitor from WATERMATIC.

Dating back to 1559, the Old Ship Hotel is operated by Paramount Hotels and is the oldest hotel in Brighton. It has 152 en-suite bedrooms and a range of restaurants, bars and conference facilities.

As Brighton is in a hard water area, the hotel had been experiencing severe scaling-up of heating and hot water systems and was forced to replace existing boiler plant because of limescale.

"Having invested over £100,000 in new boilers there was a strong incentive to avoid similar problems in the future," said Paramount Hotels' Group Maintenance Manager Phil Bell. "We had a water softener fitted at the hotel but it wasn’t solving the problem so we investigated the KAL-GUARD+ unit. Having looked at the test results and spoken to other KAL-GUARD+ users we decided to install a unit on the incoming mains," he added.

Following installation of the 54mm KAL-GUARD+ unit, the water was tested on a regular basis to evaluate the results. "The results showed that formation of new limescale has been prevented and that existing scale in the system is being broken down and flushed out of the system," explained the Old Ship's Maintenance Manager John Nettleship. "So, as well as extending the life of the plant and improving performance, we no longer have the consumables costs for the water softener, he continued. For more information, contact WATERMATIC on 0121 378 1188 or visit www.watermatic.co.uk
