How KalGUARD+ Works

KalGUARD+ is an enhanced scale inhibitor based on WATERMATIC's proven zinc anode electrolytic design.  The unit incorporates advanced electronic controls to fine tune its performance.

Adding zinc to hard water, even in minute quantities, will effectively inhibit limescale formation. The higher the level of zinc ions in the water, the greater the reduction of scale formation, even to the extent of removing existing scale deposits.

KalGUARD+ exploits this phenomenon by using a zinc anode and copper cathode to create an electrolytic action. The unit releases minute quantities of zinc into the water to prevent the build up of calcium carbonate. The unit's electronic controls are set according to the hardness of the water. The levels of zinc released are fine tuned to provide optimum performance- at levels well within those prescribed in the water regulations.

The zinc ions cause the mineral salts in the water to clump together and remain in suspension, rather than settling onto the surfaces of the system. The zinc also influences the way the calcium carbonate in the water crystallises, encouraging the formation of soft aragonite crystals rather than the harder calcite crystals associated with stubborn limescale. Any calcium crystals are flushed through the system with the water. Any crystals that are left on external surfaces such as sinks or taps can be wiped off with a damp cloth.
